I Manifested a Porch

I’ve talked a lot in my other blogs about the Law of Attraction. I teach LOA in my life coaching. If you’re not familiar with the Law of Attraction, you are in for a treat when you begin to learn it.

The law of attraction states that what we give our energy, attention and focus to comes to be. You probably know someone who sits there on a daily basis saying things like “My life is so horrible”, “How much worse can it get?”, “I can never get a break”, “things just keep getting worse and worse”.

When I began learning the law of attraction, I wondered - Do these people complain a lot because their lives are so bad or are their lives so bad BECAUSE they complain a lot?

I used to be one of these complainers. I can tell you for sure that it’s the latter.

When you change your focus and change the way you think, your whole life changes. At first I thought all this was hokey. I didn’t put much stock in the fact that everything in my life is the way it is because I manifested it. Good, bad or otherwise.

I didn’t put much stock into the fact that my life was in the crapper because I felt my life was in the crapper.

I didn’t put much stock into the fact that I was highly UNSUCCESSFUL because I didn’t believe I deserved success.

I didn’t put much stock into the fact that I kept saying “How much worse can it get?” made the universe let me know exactly how much worse it could get.

Now, there are a lot of people out there who say they believe in God and will not even entertain thoughts of the Law of Attraction. To those people I say - read Where Does God Fit Into the Law of Attraction? I wrote this post on a different blog quite some time ago.

So…back to my story.

I heard someone say that if you’re not sure about this Law of Attraction stuff, start small. Start manifesting something like great parking spaces. Parking spaces? HHHMMMMM…. OK. I set out to decide whether this was for real or not.

My kids and I were going to the DMV one day. Now, if you’ve ever been to the DMV in Auburn NY, you know that there are only 10 or so parking spots in front of the DMV building (which houses the DMV and the Social Services department and the county records office and the county tax collector and a number of other businesses). Generally, you have to park way down the street and walk up or park in the restaurant parking lot across the street and hope you don’t get towed (but if you’re focused on getting towed, you probably will).

I decided that I would start focusing from the time we left the house on getting one of the parking spaces in front of the door. I said over and over in my head “I am so happy that I got a parking space in front of the door to the DMV”. We were coming down the street and I said to my kids “We’re going to park in front of the door, go in and get out and be on our way in just a few short minutes”. My daughter said “Mom, are you doing that manifesting thing?” I said “Yes” just as a car backed out of a parking spot and we pulled in. Directly in front of us was the door to the DMV.

This was amazing!! If I could manifest that, I could get great parking spaces EVERYWHERE. Now I do. I always get the spot within one to three of the first spots next to the handicapped ones wherever I go. I don’t have to circle the parking lot for hours to get it either. It is always there - either waiting open or just opening up as I come down the parking lot. Even at Walmart on a crowded Saturday.

My daughter and I have always wanted a front porch. We looked at houses as we drove by and would say “I want that porch”. We would look through magazines and see pictures of porches that we liked. One porch in particular caught my attention. I printed it out and put it in the back of a composition notebook that I carry with me.

We decided to move from NY to KY a year or so ago. My friend Laura here in KY was looking for houses for us to rent. We didn’t want to buy not knowing the area. She would go look at houses for rent and email me photos of the outside and the particulars. I would let her know if that was a house I wanted her to take photos of the inside or not. She emailed me about 20 houses and we had it narrowed down to 2 or 3. One day, she emailed me all excited. Her sister had turned down a road that she had NEVER been on before and a sign was on the side of the road. It said “For Sale or Rent”. She told Laura about the house and Laura came over to take pictures. What she saw was a smaller version of the exact porch that I had printed out A YEAR EARLIER!! The spindles on the porch rail were exactly the same. Laura knew I wanted a porch, but I had the photo with me. She had only seen it once.

Needless to say, the area, the inside and the rent all perfectly fit into what I had in mind at the time. We are now living in that house. I am writing this post while sitting on that porch.

My vision has changed. I still want my porch, but there are other things that I have come to realize that I will have in my next home. We will find the perfect home for us at the perfect price and in the perfect location.

The universe gives us exactly what we ask for.

Be careful what you ask for. Pay attention to where your focus is.

Stress Management Part Four

Today we’ll talk about the YELLOW personality.

Yellows are open and indirect. They are the nurturers, the caretakers, the ones who spend their lives taking care of others and rarely take care of themselves.

The dress of a yellow is casual and comfortable. A yellow isn’t going to dress in high heels and a tight dress just to impress someone. A yellow isn’t going to wear uncomfortable shiny shoes and a stuffy suit just to impress.

The voice of a yellow is soft and gentle. Most everything they do is soft and gentle.  A yellow lives their life not wanting to offend anyone.

Stress Management Part Three

Today we’ll talk about the GREEN personality.

Greens are the analytical people. They are indirect and self contained. The greens are generally in positions like accountant, computer programmer, actuary, anything where they can analyze data and not have to actually talk to people. A green will go out of their way to email someone or “pass along a message” through a friend where they don’t have to do the actual talking to someone they may not know well.

Greens dress conservative and formal.  They are organized.  The greens are planners and good at follow through and follow up.  Unlike the blue who is very poor at follow up and organizing.

If you know someone who analyzes things to death and takes forever to get started because they don’t yet have enough data, they are most likely GREEN.

In part four, I will talk about the YELLOW personality.

What is the Goal of a Life Coach?

I recently read a blog post by Steve Pavlina.  Steve talks about two different experiences he has had with Life Coaches.

In his first experience, the life coach was more concerned with what the life coach wanted for Steve instead of what STEVE wanted.  That is NOT the goal of a life coach.  The goal is to help YOU figure out what YOU want.

It’s not the job of a coach to “change you” but rather help you figure out how to bring out the best in you.

Any good life coach will give you a free sample session so you can figure out if you want to work with them and they want to work with you.  Ask questions during this free sample session.  Find out how the coach can help you and make sure you resonate with what the coach is saying.  There MUST be a good fit on both sides in order for coaching to work.

If you prefer in person meetings and the coach you’ve found only does telephone sessions, then you need to find another coach.

If the coach specializes in helping ex-convicts re-enter society and you are a church going religious person who has never gotten in trouble, that probably would not be a fit for you.

Check out references of any life coach you want to meet with.  Ask for contact info for some of them so you can verify that their testimonials are real.

Don’t just jump into Life Coaching.  It’s a decision that will affect the rest of your life.  Take your time and make sure you are working with the right person.

Stress Management Part Two

The first thing you need to do to understand the different colored personalities that I discussed in part one HERE, is there are 4 distinct, different “colors”. Blue, Red, Yellow, and Green.

Understanding these “colors” will help you learn how to relate to the other people in your life.

We will start with my favorite color (because it’s my color) - BLUE

The blue personality is open and direct. They are creative. They are loud, boisterous and outgoing. If you’ve heard of someone referred to as “the life of the party”, they are most likely blue.

Blues have a hard time focusing. They are scattered. If you’ve heard someone say “But it’s an organized mess”, they are most likely blue. Blues are generally in jobs like sales, marketing, anything where they can use their creative talents and be around other people.

Blues love to have FUN. If it’s not fun, blues aren’t going to do it. Blues get distracted easily and jump from one thing to another. As soon as they get bored with something, they are on to something else. In order to keep a blue focused, you need to keep them having fun.

I am a blue with a strong secondary GREEN color. We will talk about greens next time.

I expand on these “colors” in my Stress Management Seminar. Check it out.
